Wifey said the other night it has been a while since I did one of these. She was right. This one is for her.

What is a Woman to you? They are female yes, but there is more to her than that.

To me, a Woman should be everything you aren't. Everything you are missing. She is your other half. What you might have been like as a person, but weren't.

Why?

Imagine someone who was like you. Who had the same likes, dislikes...same annoying behaviors, same lazy tendencies. Someone who wasn't something different from what or who you are.

Imagine what you would be missing...

Perspective - what she sees when you don't.

Motivation - when she creates a drive in you to impress her.

Adventure - what you may have never tried or done had you not met her.

She is the one who takes care of you when you are sick. She speaks her mind when something is important to her. She trusts you when she would otherwise be scared. She gets up early so you can sleep. She asks about your day. She desires your wild side. She gives you a family. She gives you her heart so you don't feel empty. She gives you purpose.

A Woman is a female, but not every female is a Woman.

Appreciate your Woman. Love what she is. Who she is. Everything she is.

Today I decided to go to a restaurant I used to go to a lot as a child. It was my Grandfather Rush's favorite place to eat. I was worried driving there would be different because it has been open so many years, had one partner pass away, then had a fire, and then had the other partner sell it.

The outside was the same when I arrived but you never know until you go inside and eat. I sat down at the coffee bar stools and was one of the only patrons tonight. When the waitress asked what I wanted I asked for coffee like my Grandfather always did. When it came to my seat it was the same kind of cup.

I opened the menu and some items had changed but all of the classics were still there. Even the famous burger. It took me a few minutes to decide and I went with the tuna melt. The sandwich was ready in under 10 minutes. It had the same cheese slices, the same buttery flakey break. The same plate.

I looked around and the tile was the same shade of red-orange. The cabinet doors had nicks and scratches in them where I had remembered. The same arcade machines were in the front.

As I ate my sandwich I was flooded with memories of my childhood and the many times we went there as a family for any reason with any amount of people. The head waitress came over and asked if I needed anything. I answered and asked, wasn't there a change in ownership? She said yes. "Pete asked my Husband and I if we would take the restaurant over for him when he retired but told us it had to stay the same. The food quality, the homey feel, the silverware and the layout of the restaurant."

I let her know I didn't need anything else and I finished my plate and enjoyed my coffee as more memories hit me. When I was done I paid and walked up to the front to leave the tip. I told the man (Husband) thank you for keeping the place the way it was. He paused and asked my name. I gave it and he shook my hand and told me thank you for coming. My name is Bill.

I shook his hand and walked outside. Then I cried on the curb for 5 minutes.

If you ever get hungry and you're in La Habra, stop by the Pepper Shaker, better known as Pete's. Say hi to Bill and his Wife and enjoy eating at the best place in town.
